The crude oil imports from Africa to Italy amounted to 17.8 million tons in 2022, up from a minimum in 2020. In 1990, Italy imported over 40 million tons of crude oil from African suppliers, but the imports fell dramatically in the following years, and fluctuated below 20 million tons ever since. The main African countries exporting crude oil to Italy were Libya and Angola in 2022.
