As of 2022, Italy imported 12.77 million tons of crude oil from Middle Eastern suppliers. This was the smallest imported volume in the period under consideration. Crude oil imports from Middle East were maximum in the early 2000s, at over 30 million tons. They fluctuated ever since and started to decrease in 2017.
In 2022, Middle East was the third main importer of crude oil to Italy, after the former Soviet Union countries and Africa.
