Forecast of the unemployment rate in the Netherlands 2020, by province
In 2020, the unemployment rate in the Netherlands was projected to reach 3.5 percent. This would mean a decrease from November 2019, when unemployment was at 4.1 percent. Forecast unemployment was highest in the northeastern province Groningen, at 4.5 percent. By comparison, in the southwestern province Zeeland unemployment was expected to reach three percent that year.
Unemployed population largest in the South Holland province
In addition to having the lowest unemployment rate, Zeeland was also the province with the fewest number of unemployed people. A recent estimate by the same source puts the unemployed population in Zeeland at roughly 5,000 in 2019. The province South Holland was estimated to have the largest number of unemployed that year, at approximately 75,000 – or 15 times as many as Zeeland.
