Device use for personal media consumption in Germany from 2021 to 2024
German consumers use a variety of devices to access media. The choice they make may be influenced by such factors as personal media preference, mobility and flexibility. In 2024, 94 percent of respondents stated that they personally use a smartphone for their media consumption. This put the smartphone in first place among the devices used, followed by TVs, with 89 percent of Germans using a device.
Video devices
Nowadays it’s fairly typical for households to own more than one digital device for media consumption within the home. In households with more than one member each person may also have different preferences in terms of devices used. Owing to the easier use and portability of mobile devices, it’s not uncommon for consumers to watch videos on their phone instead of a TV device. As of 2023, 62 percent of German respondents stated they mainly used their smartphone for watching digital videos.
Connected nation
It is basically a standard nowadays for households to be digitally connected. Households with adolescents owned a variety of devices, considering teenagers’ predictable interest in all things digital. Among these devices, the leading ones are smartphones, a computer or laptop and a television. Brands increasingly offer various types of devices aimed at children, students (both school and university) and professionals. These differ by price and functionality.
