Packaging accounted for almost half of total demand for plastics in Europe in 2021. Flexible packaging applications, such as films and bags, accounted for 25 percent of this total. Rigid packaging types like bottles and lids accounted for the remaining shares. Germany had the largest share of the market in 2021, accounting for approximately 22 percent of European plastics demand.
