Papa Johns operated 3,220 restaurants in its domestic market of the United States in 2023. This was around 2,500 more units than any other country. The United Kingdom and China had the highest number of stores outside of the United States. 

How many Papa Johns locations are there worldwide?

Pizza chain Papa Johns has increased its number of restaurants worldwide year-on-year since 2007, reaching a record 5,906 units in 2023. The majority of the company’s restaurants are franchised, including most of the 2,473 stores that are based outside of the United States. In spite of the number of stores increasing around the world, the number of Papa Johns employees worldwide has experienced a declining trend since 2016.

Sales slump in North America hits Papa Johns

Papa Johns announced total worldwide revenues of 2.14 billion U.S. dollars in 2023. Restaurant sales from its domestic company-owned stores increased over the previous year. This was also the case for sales from franchised stores in North America, which led to more royalties and fees being generated. Sales from Papa John's international restaurants also increased in 2023.
