The number of Papa Johns employees worldwide amounted to approximately 13,200 in 2023, an increase over the previous year. The company has reduced its workforce significantly since 2016. Despite the reduction in Papa John's company-owned restaurant workforce, Papa Johns remains one of the leading pizza restaurants in the United States.

Employees are a key ingredient to restaurant success

The general decline in employees since 2016 came in spite of an increase in the number of its global restaurants in recent years. In 2023, pizza chain Papa Johns had a total of approximately 5,906 restaurants worldwide, up from 5,706 the previous year. 

The rise of Papa Johns

In 1984, ‘Papa’ John Schnatter first started serving pizza from his father’s tavern in Indiana. The company has grown to operate nearly 6,000 restaurants in countries and territories all around the world. In 2023, Papa Johns had 3,220 total restaurants located in its domestic market of the United States. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom had the highest number of Papa Johns restaurants outside of the U.S. that year.
