Get in touch with us nowAs of the second quarter of 2024, Odido was estimated to be the largest mobile network operator in the Netherlands by consumed minutes, with an estimated market share of between 40 and 45 percent. KPN was estimated to be the second largest operator with a share between 25 and 30 percent.
The Dutch telecoms industry counts among the world's most advanced and is characterized by a competitive environment coupled with a growing demand for high-speed internet and mobile services. KPN, a former government-owned service, holds the upper hand in the fixed telephone market with a share of around 62.5 percent by number of minutes, while Odida (formerly T-Mobile Netherlands) leads the mobile market, both when measured by minutes consumed and by share of connections. They are joined at the top by VodafoneZiggo and various mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs).
In September 2021, Deutsche Telekom, owner of the company, sold T-Mobile Netherlands for 5.1 billion euros to the investment companies Apax Partners and Warburg Pincus, with revenues reflecting the completion of the sale as of March 31, 2022. As of September 2023, T-Mobile Netherlands operates as Odido. Several reasons might explain this rebranding, notably a greater freedom of action and independence from its former owner, as well as a desire to reflect Odido’s ambitions beyond the mobile market.
