Card-not-present (CNP) payments are transactions made through the use of a card, where the cardholder is not physically present for the merchant to verify authenticity. The majority of card-not-present payments were made over the internet (approximately 95 percent as of 2017). CNP payment in the United Kingdom (UK) have seen a year-on-year increase between 2012 and 2017. In particular 2017 saw a huge increase in CNP payments from the previous year.
