The number of stores operated by the Brazilian supermarket chain Grupo Pão de Açúcar, also known as Cia. Brasileira de Distribuição, amounted to 767 establishments in 2023. Three years earlier, this figure was equal to 1,057 stores. This is because Assaí spun-off from GPA and Grupo Éxito merged into GPA as a result of the corporate reorganization approved on December 31, 2020. GPA was one of the leading supermarket chains by number of establishments in Brazil in that last year.
