Leading travel agencies in the Netherlands 2020, by number of stores

As of January 2020, D-Reizen had approximately 213 stores across the Netherlands, followed by VakantieXperts and TUI Netherlands which exploited 181 and 139 stores, respectively. Observing the leading travel agencies based on revenue in the Netherlands in 2017, TUI led the ranking with more than two billion euros. BCD NV, owner of brands like Travix, CheapTickets, Vliegwinkel and BudgetAir, had a revenue of roughly 1.53 billion euros, whereas D-rt Groep (D-Reizen and VakantieXperts) generated a revenue of 651 million euros, closing the top three in the ranking.

Majority of the holidays long-haul and abroad

In total, approximately 41 million holidays were undertaken by Dutch citizens in 2018. Most of these holidays were spent abroad, as 22 million holidays were outbound. Furthermore, 26 million holidays were long-haul (four or more overnight stays), whereas Dutch tourists undertook roughly 15 million short-haul holidays in 2018. Looking at the share of holidays booked online, over 70 percent of the individuals aged between 25 to 35 years old booked their vacation through the worldwide web in 2019. 11.7 percent of the people 75 years and older had booked their holidays online, which in 2016 was at 7.1 percent.

TUI the leading tour operator in the Netherlands

Concerning the leading tour operators in the Netherlands, TUI had a revenue of 1.26 billion euros in 2017 and was ranked first, whereas the Dutch tour operator Corendon generated a revenue of nearly 500 million euros and comes second. Sundio Group (now Sunweb Group), in the Netherlands operating under different brand names such as Sunweb, GOGO, Beachmasters etc, had a revenue of 391 million euros and ended up third.
