Number of patients treated in mental health wards in Italy 2022, by age group
In 2022, a total of almost 777 thousand patients received treatment in mental health wards in hospitals in Italy. This statistic breaks this figure down by age group of the patients. According to the data, the age group accounting for the largest share of patients was the one between 45 and 64 years. As a matter of fact, roughly 358.8 thousand individuals from this age group received psychiatric treatment. Moreover, there were approximately 63.5 thousand young patients aged 18 to 24 years.
