This statistic provides information about the share of unlikely-to-pay (UTP) exposure among Italian banks as of the first half of 2019. Unlikely-to-pay exposures are a subcategory of non-performing loans and, more particularly, these are to be considered loans in respect of which banks believe the debtors are unlikely to fully meet their contractual obligations unless additional enforcement of guarantees is taken. According to data, in 2018, UniCredit held 20 percent of the total unlikely-to-pay exposures in Italy, followed by Intesa Sanpaolo (19 percent), and Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena and Banco BPM (ten percent each).
