This statistic displays how much is spent on energy as a percentage of total household expenditure in the United Kingdom (UK) from 1993 to 2016, by type of income. It shows that in 1993, those in the lowest income decile sent over 11 percent of their total household expenditure on energy. This gradually decreased before rising to 10.4 percent in 2013. Those in the highest income decile rarely spent more than 3 percent of their total household expenditure on energy.

In 2015 the ONS changed how it reported data, from reporting the calendar year to the financial year. It reported both figures for 2014. The figure for 2014 are calendar year and the figure for 2015 is the 2015/16 financial year.
