The total energy supply from fossil fuels worldwide amounted to an estimated 514 exajoules in 2022, which made it by far the leading primary energy carrier. This accounted for approximately 82 percent of the total global energy supply that year. However, it is forecast in a 1.5 degrees Celsius scenario that the global primary energy supply from fossil fuels will decrease to just 100 exajoules in 2050, while renewable energy would account for approximately 490 exajoules of the world's energy supply.
