This statistic depicts the percentage of cord blood units (CBUs) stored in U.S. cord blood banks (CBBs) by total nucleated cell count (TNC) for each unit from 2002 to 2016. According to the data, of all the CBUs stored in U.S. CBBs, 15.3 percent had TNC values greater than 1.75. In general, the higher the TNC value, the more likely a CBU is to be successfully transplanted into a patient.

The term "banked CBUs" refers to CBUs collected, and "shipped CBUs" refers to CBUs released for transplant. TNC count is expressed in 10 to the 9th power units.
TNC count is used as a guideline for quality control and clinical matching of donor specimens to patients as a higher TNC count is correlated to higher success rates for transplants.
