Inbound tourism from America to the Netherlands 2021

The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic hit the tourism industry hard, as governments implemented travel restrictions and stay-at-home measures to face the global health crisis. In the Netherlands, due to the pandemic, the number of inbound tourists from America fell sharply in 2020 over the previous year, declining from almost 2.2 million to roughly 380 thousand. Looking at the forecasts for 2021, a January 2021 study analyzed different scenarios. In the best-case scenario, assuming that intra-continental traveling will be possible from July on, American inbound tourists were forecast to reach 165 thousand in 2021. In the worst-case scenario, with restrictions taking place until the end of 2021, the number of inbound tourists from America to the Netherlands was estimated to decrease to around 80 thousand in 2021.
