New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Dallas-Ft Worth were the metros with the most rental units in the United States as of 2022. In New York, there were more than 3.4 million rental units, the majority of which were in buildings with more than 50 units. In Los Angeles, on the other hand, single-family rentals were most popular.
