In 2023, the state of Sonora was by far the largest copper producer in Mexico, accounting for nearly 80 percent of the country's copper mine output that year. Copper production in Sonora added up to some 560.9 thousand metric tons. The state of Zacatecas trailed in second, with a copper output of roughly 68 thousand metric tons.
