The highest number of overnight stays was in Spain, where UK tourists spent a total of around 21.9 million nights in holiday accommodation. This type of accommodation includes holiday homes, apartments and youth hotels. It excludes camping grounds and serviced accommodation such as hotels and guest houses.

It does not included furnished short stay accommodation with daily cleaning, bed-marking, food and beverage services etc. or homes or apartments for more permanent use (typically on a monthly or annual basis).
