In 2023, "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" was the most-viewed PG-rated movie in the United States and Canada, having sold just over 50 million tickets across the two countries - collectively known as the North American cinema market. "PG" stands for "parental guidance suggested," meaning that the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) deemed the films to contain some material that may not be suitable for children. Four of the five movies displayed were also the most-viewed kids fiction movies in the U.S. & Canada in 2023.
