The popularity of R&D investment in biotechnologies, advanced therapies, and rare diseases in Italy increased considerably between 2011 and 2016. As a matter of fact, in 2011, just 30 percent of pharmaceutical companies in the country invested in R&D in these fields, while by 2016 this figure reached 78 percent, thus more than doubling. Forecasts expect this percentage to grow even further and reach 97 percent by 2019.
