Market share development
Between 2012 and 2021, Albert Heijn’s market share in the Netherlands increased slightly, from 33.7 percent to 35.5. The food retailer’s market share peaked in 2021, at 35.5 percent. But although all is still well for AH, closest competitor Jumbo managed to nearly double its market share in the same period, from just under ten percent in 2012 to 21.8 percent in 2021.

In 2019, Albert Heijn’s online grocery market share was 42 percent – a decrease in comparison to the previous three years, but still amounting to nearly half of the market. Online Jumbo too is one of Albert Heijn’s main competitors. In 2020, Jumbo reached an online market share of 20 percent.
