People aged between 45 and 54 years made up the largest age group among the Italian population in 2022, counting around 9.3 million individuals. Infants aged up to two years were 1.2 million, the less numerous age category. As these data show, Italy suffers from a deep demographic and natality crisis. The country's population is one of the oldest in the world. In the last years, the share of Italians aged 65 years and over constantly grew, whereas the percentage of younger people declined.
