In 2019, approximately 4.58 percent of the Panamanian population were living on less than 3.20 U.S. dollars per day, down from 10.7 percent recorded at the beginning of the decade. In 2020, the unemployment rate in the country reached the highest percentage since 2016, at 18.55 percent.
