Oil and gas companies spent nearly 60 million U.S. dollars on lobbying Republican Party members in the 2024 election cycle. The Republican Party has historically been the greatest recipient of oil and gas companies' lobbying expenditures in the United States. Between the 1990 and 2024 election cycles, the oil and gas industry significantly ramped up its spending on lobbying for political parties. Whereas spending aimed towards the Democratic Party saw only slight fluctuations, lobbying for the Republican Party surged to a peak of nearly 70 million U.S. dollars in the presidential election year 2020. This compared to 13 million U.S. dollars which went to the Democratic Party. The greatest recipient that year was President Trump.
