As of 2024, the Welsh, Irish, and Scottish national rugby union teams were tied for the most season appearances in the Six Nations Championship. Since the competition began in its original form as the Home Nations Championship in 1883, the three countries have appeared in 130 Six Nations seasons. As the latest country to enter the tournament, having done so in 2000, Italy had the least number of appearances, with 25.

England has two fewer season appearances than Wales, Ireland, and Scotland in the competition because it was boycotted in 1888 and 1889 by the other teams. France joined the tournament in 1910, when the Five Nations Championship succeeded the Home Nations era, and was excluded from 1931 to 1939. Italy joined the tournament in 2000, when the Six Nations Championship succeeded the Five Nations Championship.
