In 2021, Icelandic national in other countries spent more than 740 million U.S. dollars during their travels, which was around 200 million dollars more than in the previous year. By the end of the 2010s, the outbound tourism spending in the Nordic country had surpassed one billion U.S. dollars per year. The significant drop experienced in 2020 and 2021 is related to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
