This statistic represents the evolution of gross domestic hydrokinetic, wave and tidal energy consumption in France from 2006 to 2016. It is learned that in 2015, around 42 kilotons of oil equivalent of marine energy were consumed in France.
Gross domestic consumption of wave and tidal energy in France from 2006 to 2016
(in 1,000 metric tons of oil equivalent)
* kilotons of oil equivalent (ktep): unit of measure of the energy used to compare the energies between them. This is the energy produced by burning a ton of average oil, which is about 11,600 kWh. Br>
There are several types of marine energy, including hydrokinetic energy, wave energy and tidal power. wave energy or wave energy refers to energy production from waves, that is to say from successive waves born from the effect of wind on the surface of the sea and sometimes spread over very long distances. There are different devices to exploit this energy.
The tidal energy is to exploit the energy of the tides in coastal areas of high tidal range (difference height of water between high tide and low tide succeeding). The tide phenomenon is induced by the gravitational effect on the ocean of two stars near our planet: the Moon and the Sun. hydrokinetic energy is the tidal energy energy from marine currents.
