In 2023, oil and oil products were by far the most imported energy source to Italy, at over 76 million tons of oil equivalent. Natural gas followed, at around 50 million tons of oil equivalent. In 2023, the main country for natural gas exports to Italy was Algeria, which was responsible for over 40 percent of the gas imported to Italy.
