Turnover related to ticket sales for the Eiffel Tower in France 2011-2019
The Eiffel Tower: one of the most visited attractions in France The Eiffel Tower, built between 1887 and 1889 and inaugurated for the 1889 World’s Fair, is now a cultural icon of France. Despite a long average wait time to reach one of the three levels of the tower, the monument benefits from positive feed-backs coming from the majority of tourists. In 2015, 75 percent of visitors declared that they were satisfied by the hospitality and the friendliness of the staff of the Eiffel Tower. The average ticket price to visit the Tower, reaching an average of 9.71 euros in 2015, was not mentioned as a barrier. However, even if its popularity is well established, the Eiffel Tower is not the most visited monument in France. It is outdistanced by the Louvre Museum, which attracts nearly 9 million euros each year and by the Palace of Versailles.
A star on Instagram The tower is famous on social media like Instagram. As of September 2018, the Eiffel Tower came second in a ranking on the most popular attractions worldwide on Instagram. That year it had around 5.09 million mentions on the photo-sharing platform. Additionally, the Eiffel Tower was the most Instagrammed tourist attraction in Europe in 2017.
