As of 2023, a study found that approximately 10 percent of the adult population in Brazil had been diagnosed with diabetes. When asked if they have been diagnosed with diabetes, around 30 percent of adults aged 65 and older claimed to suffer from this health condition, making it the most affected age group by diabetes. Those aged between 55 and 64 followed, with over 22 percent stating they were diagnosed with diabetes mellitus in Brazil as of that year.

The survey was carried out in the capital city of each of the 26 Brazilian states, plus the Federal District of Brasília.
