The health expenditure as a share of gross domestic product in Myanmar increased by one percentage points (+21.65 percent) in 2021 in comparison to the previous year. With 5.63 percent, the share thereby reached its highest value in the observed period. Estimates of current health expenditures include healthcare goods and services consumed each year. This indicator does not include capital health expenditures such as buildings, machinery, IT, and stocks of vaccines for emergency or outbreaks. Level of current health expenditure is expressed as a percentage of GDP.
Total health expenditure is the sum of public and private health expenditure. It covers the provision of health services (preventive and curative), family planning activities, nutrition activities, and emergency aid designated for health but does not include provision of water and sanitation.
