The health expenditure as a share of gross domestic product in Bhutan decreased by 0.5 percentage points (-11.47 percent) in 2021 in comparison to the previous year. Nevertheless, the last two years recorded a significantly higher share than the preceding years. This indicator estimates current health expenditures, including healthcare goods and services consumed during each year. This indicator does not include capital health expenditures such as buildings, machinery, IT, and stocks of vaccines for emergency or outbreaks. The level of current health expenditure is expressed as a share of GDP.
Total health expenditure is the sum of public and private health expenditure. It covers the provision of health services (preventive and curative), family planning activities, nutrition activities, and emergency aid designated for health but does not include provision of water and sanitation.
