In 2020, the Swedish family-owned company Stena AB generated a revenue of roughly 33.3 billion Swedish kronor. This was a decrease of over ten percent compared with the previous year. As one of the largest ferry operators worldwide, ferry transport is the company’s main source of income. Other segments include offshore drilling, shipping, property, as well as new businesses, such as wind energy.

Stena AB was founded in 1939, with the establishment of the Sten A Olsson Metallprodukter trading company. Gradually, the enterprise focused on new business segments besides trading. The first ship, for example, was bought a few years after Stena’s foundation, although ferry services only started to operate in the 1960s. In 2018, the company owned and chartered more than one hundred vessels.
