In 2022, the number of employees working in internal R&D activities in biotechnology in Spain amounted to around 35,300 up from 32,900 workers reported a year prior. This figure showed an upward trend since 2009, when the number of employees performing biotech-related R&D activities in the European country totaled about 22,000 people. That year, Spanish companies allocated more than 1.2 billion euros to research and development in biotechnology-related activities.
