The statistics show the distribution of public aids granted by the Deposit Guarantee Fund of Credit Institutions (FGDEC) destined to the restructuring of the Spanish banking system between 2009 and 2016, according to bank entity. The Caja de Ahorros del MediterrĂ¡neo received an injection of capital for an amount of 5,249 million euros from the Deposit Guarantee Fund in December 2011.

The purpose of the Fund is to guarantee deposits in cash and in securities or other financial instruments constituted in credit institutions, with a limit of 100,000 euros for deposits in money or, in the case of deposits denominated in another currency, the equivalent applying the corresponding exchange rates, and 100,000 euros for investors who have entrusted a credit institution with securities or other financial instruments. Additionally, it may adopt measures aimed at facilitating the implementation of European financial assistance for the recapitalization of Spanish credit institutions.
