In 2022, the number of corneal donors in Spain amounted to 3,457 people, an increase of 810 donors in comparison to a year earlier. Although an increase in the number of corneal donors has been observed during the last two years analyzed, the figures lay below those reported before the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. During the last year examined, over 4,000 corneal transplants were carried out in Spain.
