Monthly per capita spend on sports participation in Spain 2020, by household income

The monthly spending on sporting goods and services in Spain was highly related to the monthly household income in 2020. For instance, Spaniards whose household income was above three thousand euros spent around 130.5 euros per month on sports participation that year. By contrast, people in the European country living in a household with an income below one thousand euros spent on average only 20 euros each month of that year.

What influences the motivation to exercise?

Beyond the correlation between expenditure on sporting goods and services and household income, other correspondences between social indicators and exercising habits can be found. In 2020, a relationship between level of education held and regular exercising habits in Spain was observed. Around 40 percent of the respondents with a middle school or lower level of education exercised regularly, whereas for those with higher education the figure was close to 70 percent.

Disposable income in Spanish households

The per capita disposable income of households in the Iberian nation grew steadily between 2013 and 2019. The average Spaniard in 2019 had a yearly disposable income of over 16 thousand euros, a rise of over one-seventh of the 2013 figure.
