The total number of public road freight transport companies with heavy commercial vehicles in Spain in January 2022 at a national level amounted to nearly 59,000. Approximately 1,500 public transport companies that operate within the different Spanish autonomous communities owned authorized heavy vehicles.

* In Spain, some autonomous communities are also divided into comarcas. Some of them have a clearly defined status, are regulated by law and even their comarcal councils have some power. In some other cases, their legal status is not very formal for they correspond to natural areas, like valleys, river basins and mountainous areas, or even to historical regions overlapping different provinces and ancient kingdoms. In English, a comarca is equivalent to a district, county, area or zone.
