Sales volume of non-alcoholic beverages in Alko stores 2017-2023
Alko Inc. is the national alcoholic beverage retailing monopoly in Finland, wholly owned by the Finnish Government. It is the only store retailing alcoholic beverages with a volume of alcohol of over 5.5 percent.
The sales volume of non-alcoholic beverages, such as water, lemonades, and fruit juices, in Alko stores in Finland increased slightly from 2017 to 2023. In 2023, 0.6 million liters of non-alcoholic beverages were sold by the Finnish alcohol retail monopoly.
The import volume of fruit and vegetable juices fluctuates
Due to its geographic location, cold and long winters and short summers, Finland depends on imports of fruit and vegetables. Over the past ten years, the import volume of fruit and vegetable juices to Finland fluctuated between 40 and 50 metric tons, reaching its peak in 2012 with almost 54 thousand metric tons.
While the import volume of fruit and vegetable juices fluctuated the consumer price index (CPI) of fruit and vegetable juices in Finland increased significantly over the past decade. The consumer price index for fruit and vegetable juices was measured at 167.39, with the base year 2010 equaling 100.
Consumption of fresh vegetables shows an upwards trend
Over the past years, the annual per capita consumption of fresh vegetables in Finland shows an upwards trend.
On the other hand, the annual per capita consumption of fresh fruit increased overall during the past years but followed a downward trend since peaking in 2016 at 46.1 kilograms of fresh fruit (other than citrus fruit) per person.
