This statistic shows the six-month evolution of the number of cases of settlement in payment provided for in the provisions of Royal Decree Law 6/2012 on urgent measures to protect mortgage debtors in Spain between 2015 and 2016. In the first half of 2016, the number of payments decreased by almost half compared to the previous half year.

Royal Decree-Law 6/2012 created the code of good practice to which, voluntarily, credit institutions and other entities that, in a professional manner, carry out the activity of granting loans or mortgage loans.

The mortgage debtors included in the scope of protection of this real decretoley are the holders of loans or mortgage-backed loans, which face difficulties in dealing with payments on their loans, since the members of their family unit do not have income derived from work or economic activities and the contributions payable exceed
50% or 40% of your income.

The rule provides that they may request a restructuring of their debt, a reduction so as to reduce the amount of their assessed contributions or, ultimately
term, deliver the housing and the debt is canceled.
