Optus had a 29 percent share of the Australian mobile phone services retail market as of June 2023. Telstra had the largest market share of the mobile handset services retail market in the country and was Optus's main competitor.

The operating revenue of Optus fell to 7.8 billion Australian dollars in the 2022 financial year. In the same year, Optus reported an EBITDA of over two billion Australian dollars.

Telstra Corporation Limited

Telstra had a 43 percent share of the mobile handset services retail market in Australia as of June 2023. Telstra has maintained its dominance in Australia's retail mobile phone services market, with Optus as its main competitor. Telstra is the largest telecommunications company in Australia in terms of market share. Originally a state-owned enterprise, it is now a fully privatized company with one of the country's largest brands. In 2023, Telstra's brand value exceeded 13 billion U.S. dollars.
