In 2020, there were approximately 2.4 million employees in the Brazilian construction sector, an important increase in comparison to the previous year. Between 2013 and 2018, the number of employees in that sector in Brazil decreased every year. Something that might have played an important role in that development might be that the Brazilian construction industry was put under turmoil in 2014, following an economic crisis in the country, combined with a federal investigation that led employees (including the upper management) of some of the major companies in the sector to be charged with corruption and money laundering.
