The number of employed persons working in the civil engineering industry in the European Union (28 countries) from 2008 to 2018 varied over time. During this time period, the number of employed persons in civil engineering rose from approximately 1.51 million in 2008 to around 1.74 million in 2019.
In 2018, the turnover of the civil engineering industry in the EU-28 countries reached around 301.5 billion euros.

The source adds the following information: "Employed persons are persons aged 15 and over who performed work, even for just one hour per week, for pay, profit or family gain during the reference week or were not at work but had a job or business from which they were temporarily absent because of, for instance, illness, holidays, industrial dispute, and education or training."
