Leading dairy companies in Belgium 2016, by turnover
The Belgian dairy market is dominated by players from larger neighboring countries. French multinational Danone Groupe was the leading dairy company in Belgium in 2016, with a turnover of nearly 300 million U.S. dollars. Royal FrieslandCampina NV, market leader in its country of origin the Netherlands, was the second-largest dairy company in Belgium, with a turnover of almost 250 million U.S. dollars. Lactalis Groupe, Savencia Fromage & Dairy and Bel Groupe, ranked third, fourth and fifth respectively, are all French, whereas Unilever (in sixth place) is another Dutch dairy company.

The highest-ranked Belgian dairy company is Milcobel NV, with a turnover valued at roughly one sixth of market leader Danone’s. The worldwide turnover of Belgium’s largest dairy cooperative amounted to just under one billion euros in 2017, an increase in comparison to the three previous years. The producer of butter, cheese and milk-based drinks employed nearly 2,000 people in 2017.
