Revenue of PostNL 2014-2021

PostNL is a Dutch mail, parcel and an e-commerce company operating in the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Belgium and the United Kingdom. The revenue of the postal service company amounted to a total of approximately 3.5 billion euros in 2021, an increase compared to the previous year and the highest revenue reached between 2014 and 2021. Categorizing the revenue by segment, most of the revenue was generated by the parcel division of PostNL. In 2021, the mail segment reached a revenue of roughly 1.7 billion euros, whereas the revenue of parcels amounted to over 2.3 billion euros.

Growth in PostNL’s Parcels

The growth rate of delivered parcels fluctuated between 2009 and 2014, before increasing steadily year by year from 2014 onwards. In 2014, parcels experienced a volume growth of 8.4 percent, whereas by 2021 this segment grew to a total of 13.8 percent. A similar development was seen with the revenue of PostNL’s parcels segment. Between 2014 and 2021, revenue grew by approximately 309 million euros.

Volumes of mail and parcels delivered

Examining the volumes of mail and parcels delivered in the Netherlands by PostNL, two different developments can be observed. In 2014, the mail and parcel segments had a volume of 2.7 billion and 142 million, respectively. By 2021, mail decreased to approximately 1.7 billion, whereas the volume of parcels increased to 384 million.
