In 2020, the most popular streaming service in the United States was Spotify, with 49 percent of respondents to a survey saying that they streamed or downloaded music from the site in the last week. Of this figure, 25 percent were using Spotify's premium service, and 24 percent were accessing the platform for free. Spotify overtook YouTube in terms of usage frequency between 2019 and 2020, and was one of the few services to see an increase in weekly users, along with Amazon Music and YouTube Music.

*For Spotify in 2019, the share of listeners who had used the premium service was 19 percent, for the free service the share was 22 percent. Premium service users in 2020 amounted to 25 percent of the total, free users accounted for 24 percent.
**For YouTube Music in 2020, the share of listeners who had used the premium service was three percent, for the free service the share was 10 percent.
Data for iHeartRadio and YouTube Music was not provided for 2019.
