Largest electricity suppliers in Brussels, Belgium 2024, by market share

With over 70 percent of the market share in 2024, Engie Electrabel – the Belgian daughter of French multinational Engie – was the leading electricity supplier in Belgium's Brussels-Capital Region. TotalEnergies was the second-largest supplier, holding a market share of 15.7 percent. 

Belgian electricity providers face regional differences

Belgium is a country where regions and language communities have strong identities. As such, the market for electricity suppliers is different from one region to another. While Electrabel was the leading the market in the Wallon and Flemish regions, Luminus was the second-largest provider in both regions, outcompeting TotalEnergies. In Flanders, the third-largest electricity provider was Eneco. In 2023, Belgium's electricity generation stood at 81.9 terawatt-hours.

The price of electricity in Belgium

Residential electricity prices in Belgium have averaged between 27 and 29 euro cents per kilowatt-hour, depending on the annual consumption. In 2022, Belgians paid one of the highest household electricity prices in Europe. In contrast, neighbor the Netherlands registered one of the lowest prices in the continent, ranging from four to 8.3 euro cents per kilowatt-hour, depending on the annual consumption.
