Revenue of contactless payment journeys made on London transport 2016-2019, by mode

This statistic shows the monthly revenue in million British pounds generated by contactless payment card journeys on London transport systems from January 2016 to May 2019. The graph shows a rise in the amount of contactless payment traffic in London on buses, trams and rail over this time period. The revenue of bus and tram journeys using contactless payment between 10 January and 6 February 2016 was 13.7 million British pounds, which rose to over 37.15 million British pounds between 28th April and 25th March 2019. The revenue generated by rail journeys rose to almost 138.9 million British pounds for the month between 28th April and 25th May 2019. A clear correspondence can been seen in relation between the number of contactless payment card journeys taken on London transport and the revenue generated by the technology. Between 28th April and 25th May 2019 over 48.38 million train journeys were paid for using contactless payment methods.
